Society speaker
RUMFORD – Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the Municipal Building conference room, Congress Street. Doris Bourret will speak about the history of St. John’s Church, which is now in its centennial year. President Bill Weston will lead a discussion on plans for the year.
Networking
RUMFORD – The next Community Networking meeting, sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Community Room at Scrapper’s Domaine, Canal Street. Bring a lunch.
Wendy Legg Pollock, director of the Maine Cooperative Extension in South Paris, will speak about the organization’s resources and events. There will also be updates on other local organizations’ activities.

RUMFORD – Members of the Stephens High School class of 1949 will gather at the former Ames parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, to car pool to the Howard Pond camp of Harry and Fran Burns. Bring a lunch.
Gallery talk
RUMFORD – Dennis Dreher will give a gallery talk at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Pennacook Art Center.
Dreher will have diagrams and work-up models for many of the pieces in his current show, “Weaving the Colors of Space.” He will explain the chemistry and geometry behind the sculptures and the stories about their construction.
Pennacook Art Center is located at 82 Congress St. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to schedule a special tour, call 364-9972.
