JAY – Carley A. Pomerleau, 15, of Jay, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, at her home, surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in Portland on Aug. 25, 1990, the daughter of Craig and Dianna Schanck Pomerleau. She attended Jay Middle School and was a freshman at Jay High School.

Carley received the Junior Citizen Award for outstanding service given by the Farmington Emblem Club 460.

One of her favorite quotes from Dr. Seuss, “Be who you are, say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” Carley always had something nice to say about visitors and thanked everyone for their care and love. She was very smart, had a sharp wit and great sense of humor. Carley loved her dogs, Molly and Meka, and her cat, Angel Pie.

Her recent passion was the program of which she was director, “Gifts from the Heart.” She envisioned kids in her same situation, being entertained instead of bored, laughing instead of thinking of their long hospital stays and the treatments with pain. Her program solicited donations to purchase books, DVDs, TVs, afghans, CD players and music. She sought this not for herself, but for other kids and their siblings. The foundation has made donations to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Carley’s life was short, but she touched many lives and will continue to live on through her foundation. Her love, laughter and compassion made our world a better place.

She is survived by her parents of Jay; a sister, Kurstin of Jay; maternal grandparents, Ezra and Dianne Pease of North New Portland, Vern and Pat Schanke of Farmington; paternal grandparents, Norman and Honey Pomerleau of Jay; aunts and uncles, Rodney and Rhonda Schanck of Wilton, Lonnie and Tracy Jones of Tennessee, Bob and Melinda Loon of Jay, Mike and ReNae Gagnon of Greene; and many cousins.

Sweet dreams, Carley. Rest in peace.
