BURLINGTON, Mass. – Edward Scolnik, 88, of Lewiston, died unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 16, in Burlington, Mass.

Born on Aug. 19, 1917, and was one of three sons to Kalman and Mary Gurewitz Scolnik.

As a resident of Lewiston, “Ed” graduated from both Frye Grammar School and Lewiston High School. He also graduated from Bates College with a B.S. degree in science.

During World War II, he was with a field artillery unit attached to Patton’s infantry as they fought their way across Europe. After the war, he graduated from the Connecticut School of Pharmacy.

Ed worked in Bangor and Lewiston. He later retired and put in a great deal of time on stamp collecting, and had a large collection. He also was a part-time fisherman.

Among his living relatives are a brother, William, of Lewiston; nephews, Stephen Scolnik and his wife, Susan, and family of Potomac, Md., Louis Scolnik and his wife, Paula, and family of Lewiston, Hilda Scolnik of Silver Spring, Md., Reuben Scolnik of Houston, Texas, and Jack Rubin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a niece, Estelle Friedland of Miramar, Fla.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Sam, who died last year.
