Special lunch
RUMFORD – The class of 1954 of Stephens High School will meet for a special class luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Sam’s on Route 2.
The afternoon will be spent visiting with former classmates from the area.
Support group
RUMFORD – River Valley Healthy Communities will sponsor a Tobacco Support Group from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Rumford Hospital. The group will meet across from room 351 on the third floor. The group, which meets every other Wednesday, is open to anyone seeking support to stay off the habit or is trying to kick it. Sign-up is not needed. FMI: Stephanie at 364-7408.
Cemetery cleanup
PERU – The Demerritt Cemetery Association requests that all disposable planters and decorations be removed from cemetery lots before Oct. 8. Anything left on the lots at that time will be removed. Anyone interested in joining the committee at 9 a.m. on that date for a work session at the cemetery is welcome.
Blood drive
RUMFORD – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the River Valley Expo at Mountain Valley High School. The new Red Cross blood drive bus will be available.
As an incentive to meet the goal of collecting 40 pints of blood, those who give will have an extra chance to win the grand prize: $300, made up of 30 $10 gift certificates to any of the businesses participating in the Expo. People attending the event can fill out an entry form.
During the blood drive, donations will also be accepted to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

RUMFORD – The third annual River Valley Expo, set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, is a sellout with more than 150 exhibits.
The event at Mountain Valley High School is sponsored by the River Valley Chamber of Commerce and River Valley Growth Council. Raffle tickets are now on sale for an 8×10-foot shed valued at $3,000.
Tickets are $3 each or five for $10. To purchase tickets, contact the chamber at 364-3241 or visit the Rumford Falls Times, Log Cabin Craftworks, Riverside Realty, Roberts Chiropractic, Franklin Savings Bank, Davis Florist, Erik Designs, Hannaford’s or the Sun-Journal. Tickets can also be purchased during the Expo, with the winning ticket drawn at the end of the day.
There will also be a grand prize valued at $300 and made up of 30 $10 gift certificates to any of the businesses participating in the Expo.
