LEWISTON – Maine author and avid sailor Thomas Froncek will speak to the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club at noon Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Ramada Inn. Originally from Milwaukee, Froncek began his career as a journalist, reporting during his early career for Time and Life magazines.

In addition to numerous contributions to periodicals and illustrated histories, Froncek’s books include memoirs, “A Splendid Madness” and “Home Again, Home Again,” works of history, travel and family drama, “Take Away One.” His most recent work, “A Splendid Madness: A Man. A Boat. A Love Story,” is an account of his mid-life love affair with sailing. It was named winner of Sail America’s Southam Award for best sailing book of 2004.

Now retired, Froncek lives with his wife in mid-coast Maine, where he continues to write and to sail at every opportunity.

The public is welcome to join club members to hear Froncek’s presentation. Anyone who would like to learn more about Rotary is welcome to attend. The cost of luncheon is $8 a person.
