Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Sharing hope
How encouraging it is to see such wonderful projects in Lewiston and Auburn as the lots on Knox Street that have been opened up for gardens.
Many food pantries and places of hope have shown up to bring hope to a place that always needs hope.
Hope is a wonderful word that needs to be carried to all of us.
Now we have a new place of hope called the Root Cellar. It has been a lighthouse of hope to Portland, and I am sure it will be a great part of hope for Lewiston and Auburn.
Bravo to those who care and share. We notice you, and we appreciate you.

Tootsie Rolls
The officers and members of the Fr. A.J. Barry Council of the Knights of Columbus want to publicly express their sincere thanks to the people of Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Peru and the surrounding area for their most generous contributions to one of our major projects, our annual Tootsie Roll Drive to benefit the OCARC.
Again, as in the past, our neighbors have shown their willingness to support this most worthy cause. Because of this, we are able to help some very deserving people.

Finding Liberty
We would like to thank all people who helped us find our dog, Liberty. On Aug. 25, Liberty jumped out of my husband’s truck at a business on Minot Avenue in Auburn. We searched for two weeks without any luck. On Sept. 9, Ken Hilton, from another business on Minot Avenue, called to tell us that Liberty was near his store. He was kind enough to give her some dog bones and food to keep her there long enough for my husband and I to arrive.
When we did arrive, we found that she had porcupine quills in her mouth and had lost some weight. She was a little disoriented, but finally figured out who we were and was happy to come home with us.
The quills were pulled out that afternoon, and she was home with us, resting comfortably in her own bed.
We cannot thank everyone enough who helped us find Liberty. Many thanks to the many people who accepted our fliers and the many stores that allowed us to hang the fliers.
By the way, Mr. Hilton donated the reward money we offered to a charity to help with the hurricane victims.

Sharing quilts
The Buckfield Community Church quilt committee thanks all who shared and attended the recent quilt show. There was a tremendous response, with people bringing quilts and wall hangings from Auburn, Leeds, Greene, Minot, South Paris, Hebron, Norway, Turner and Buckfield. The hours of love poured into those quilts is overwhelming, and it was wonderful that so many were willing to share. A special thanks to all who helped make the display possible.
