LEWISTON – Mystery for Hire will present its murder mystery dinner theatrer production of “Politics Can Be Murder” at the Holy Family Parish Hall Saturday, Oct. 1. The murder mystery revolves around a political debate for a hotly contested Senate seat.

“The show makes lighthearted fun of political campaigns and politics in general,” said Dan Marois, who has produced more than 350 mystery shows in the last decade along with his wife, Denise. “We don’t pick on any particular politicians but audiences will recognize some of the political character types.”

Audience members are encouraged to take notes as they watch the mystery unfold. At the end of the evening, the person who most correctly guesses who committed the crime is declared the “super sleuth” of the evening.

“What we do is pure fun,” said Marois. “We perform the show between the courses of the meal and actors interact with the audience throughout the evening.”

“There are also a few surprises,” promised Marois.

“Politics Can Be Murder” covers the Senate campaign of incumbent Warren Hardstuff who is being challenged by Hilton Paris III, an up-and-coming opponent. The audience is also introduced to Hilary Hardstuff, the senator’s opinionated wife, George Stepitupalot, a political junkie and pollster, and a young lady, Candy, who has political ambitions of her own.

The cast for the show includes the Marois from Poland, Chuck Waterman from Westbrook, Anne McVeigh from South Portland and Brian Files from Gardiner.

“Politics Can Be Murder” will be performed at 7 p.m.; doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person, which includes the mystery show and a complete buffet. For reservations, call 782-0498 or 783-1578.
