RUMFORD – Walter O. Andersen, 81, of Fourth Street, Mexico, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Rumford on May 2, 1924, a son of Carl and Harriet (Hansen) Andersen. He was educated in Rumford schools.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed for 44 years with the Rumford Paper Mill.

He was a member of the Boise 25 & 40 year club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He enjoyed feeding the birds, shopping, gardening and socializing with his friends “Blackie,” “Libby” and “Ziko.”

He is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine (Dubendris) Andersen, of Mexico; a special niece, Sandra Ferguson; other nieces and nephews; and very dear friends, Tim and Linda Bourassa.
