LEWISTON – Maxine M. Gibbons, 66, of Farmington went home to be with her Lord on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Phillips, a daughter of the late Wesley Elijah and Esther Amanda (Wilcox) Mitchell. She attended the Fairbanks School and was a graduate of Farmington High School Class of 1958. She graduated from Wilford Beauty Culture School in Massachusetts.

For years she worked as a hairdresser and a waitress, and ran a small business she called House of Love, where she raised registered Yorkshire terriers. Her passion truly was her dogs.

She was a member of the Farmington Baptist Church and was a member of the Fairbanks Skillful Workers 4-H Club for more than eight years, and won a trip to Chicago. During her stay at the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Living Center in Canton, she belonged to the Red Hats. She enjoyed gardening and raising her plants.

She is survived by four sisters, Evelyn Ames of Farmington, Marie Mitchell of Jay, Beverly Bacheller of North Jay, and Louise Townsend and her husband, Terrance, of Jay; two aunts, Angie Ivers of Rangeley and Margaret Hayward of Rangeley; an uncle, Richard Lambert of Strong; four nephews; six nieces; and many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her companion of more than 30 years, Ralph Danforth, who died in April 2, 1991; a son, Martin J. Gibbons III, who died June 28, 1984; a sister, Ethelyn Coffren, who died Jan. 31, 2002; a brother, Virgil W. Mitchell, who died June 12, 2004; a nephew, Steven W. Mitchell, who died Sept. 28, 2001; and a niece, Janice Coffren, who died May 16, 2002.
