KITTERY – Mike Nemi threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help Jay avert a major upset with a 20-14 win over Traip Academy in Campbell Conference football action on Saturday.
Sean McDonough’s 1-yard run gave Traip (0-4) a 14-6 lead just over two minutes into the final quarter. The Tigers (3-1) pulled within two points on Nemi’s 27-yard TD pass to Zane Armandi, then took the lead for good with 2:56 left on a 23-yard scoring strike from Nemi to Brad Loon.
Ryan Bourassa scored Jay’s other touchdown on a 20-yard run in the first quarter.
Trevor McCourt finished with 19 carries for 104 yards as Jay outgained Traip, 336-145 in total yards.
The loss extended Traip’s losing streak to 41 games.
Hebron 23, Pomfret 0
POMFRET, CT – Greg and Jose Gumbs combined for 182 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns to carry Hebron to a 23-0 victory over Pomfret on Saturday.
Greg Gumbs scored two touchdowns on 17-yard and 43-yard runs for Hebron (2-0).
Hebron’s defense held Pomfret (0-1) to two drives over 50 yards.
Boys’ soccer
Brunswick 2, EL 1
BRUNSWICK – Steve May scored the game-winning goal with 18:30 left on a free kick to give Brunswick a 2-1 victory over Edward Little in Class A boys’ soccer on Saturday.
Brunswick’s (8-0) Kit Smith found the back of the net on a feed from Ryan Hamm for the Dragons’ first goal.
Eric Prue scored the lone goal for Edward Little unassisted.
Hebron 0, Proctor 0
HEBRON – Hebron and Proctor Academies played to a scoreless tie in boys’ soccer action on Saturday.
Hebron’s (2-0-1) defense was led by fullbacks captain Erik Rousseau, Roman Gosney, Cameron Gosney and Loren Joyce.
Dmytro Naida had four saves for Hebron, while Evan Procknow turned back eight for Proctor (1-0-1).
Lisbon 3, Livermore Falls 0
LIVERMORE FALLS – The Greyhounds opened up offensively in the second half as Lisbon blanked Livermore Falls 3-0 in MVC boys’ soccer action on Saturday.
The Andies kept pace with the Greyhounds in a well played and evenly matched first half. Derick Neal was busy in goal for Livermore Falls, turning back 17 shots.
Lisbon was able to take advantage of a tiring squad’s mistakes in the second half as Dan Romero, Nate Osmond and Payton Austin recorded goals.
Greyhounds goalie Mike Wilkins had 10 saves and stopped a penalty shot late in the second half to preserve the shutout.
