PORTSMOUTH, N.H., – Sprague Energy has presented the $3,000 Rosalie Ruffino Memorial Scholarship to Kyra Benson of South Paris, Maine.

Benson, a graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive School in South Paris, is attending Keene State College in Keene, majoring in graphic design. She is the daughter of Dana Benson, who works for Sprague at its Merrill Marine Terminal in Portland, Maine.

Each year Sprague awards two scholarships to dependents of employees. Applicants are judged on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and a written essay.

The scholarship program is intended not only to assist students with the costs of pursuing a college degree, but also to introduce them to the Sprague “Doing More” culture through the essay portion of the application. Doing More is a volunteer-based employee group that focuses on community outreach in the areas of environmental stewardship and charitable support.

The scholarship is named in memory of Rosalie Ruffino, a Sprague Energy employee for 26 years, where she was the manager of transportation and supply. For more information on Sprague visit www.spragueenergy.com.
