AUBURN – A Kennebec Sail and Power Squadron Boat Smart course will get under way on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Edward Little High School. The course will held from 6 to 8 p.m. the next four consecutive Wednesdays.

Cost for the material is $40 to be paid to the instructor. Anyone interested in taking the course should call ELHS at 784-9220 or Gary Bain at 782-22985

Boat Smart is for all boaters. It covers boat handling, navigation rules, knots, trailering and safety equipment. As boating is often a family activity, the course is of value to all members of a boating family and they are encouraged to attend as a group.

Qualified squadron instructors provide instruction as a civic service. There is no charge for instruction; the only costs are those for materials, plus overhead costs.

While the content of the student manual will serve as the basis for the course, it will also serve as a reference book in basic boating after the course is completed.

The course meets the educational standards of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and features a proctored examination as required by many states and insurance companies.

The course will provide instruction and examination for laws and regulations of state and local authorities in the area where it is taught.
