LEWISTON – Roland R. Charpentier, 79, of Auburn, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, of respiratory failure.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1925, to Edward A. and Laura (Morin) Charpentier. He was educated in Auburn and entered the naval service on Dec. 8, 1943, serving three years as a cobbler, with honorable discharge on May 9, 1946.

He was married to Mabel I. Deschaines on June 30, 1951; she predeceased him in 1991.

He enjoyed bowling, hunting, carpentry, card playing, bingo, spending time with his family and friends, and was known for his humor and stories. He was employed at Knapp Shoe and the Bates Mill for most of his adult life.

He is survived by his daughter, Claire Murphy and her husband, Jim; their three daughters, Tina Clukey and husband, Ron, their son, Joshua “Buckshot” Clukey, Sarah Champagne and her husband, Paul, and their two daughters, Morgan and MaKenzie, and Laura Murphy; his son, Gerald Charpentier and his wife, Marlene, and daughters, Wendy, Penny and Melanie; sisters, Pauline Morin, Eva Croteau and Connie Corkery; and two brothers, Eddie Charpentier and Jean-Paul “Butch” Charpentier. He had many nieces and nephews that loved him very much.

He was predeceased by a brother in World War II, Roger Charpentier, and Charles Charpentier; and sisters, Georgette Davis and Carmen Benny.

The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at Central Maine Medical Center for their wonderful care.
