BABSON PARK, Mass. – Jessie Gargiulo scored three goals, including the game-winner with under two minutes to go in the first half, to lead nationally-ranked Bates College to a 5-1 win over Babson in women’s soccer on Thursday.
Bates grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Kim Alexander scored off a rebound of Meg Coffin’s shot. Babson (6-3-0) then came right back with a goal by Caitlin Cronin, as she one-timed a cross from Kirsten Schmid.
BU 1, Maine 1
ORONO – Boston University and the University of Maine played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Thursday.
Melissa Shulman tallied the first goal of the game for the Terriers (5-4-3, 1-0-1), blasting a shot from the top of the penalty area.
Maine’s Erin Corey tied the game up for good off a pass from Laura Harpter. Corey tapped the goal in after BU keeper Christina Reuter lost control of the ball.
Mens’ soccer
St. Joe’s 4, Thomas 1
WATERVILLE – Harrison Deah scored three unassisted goals to lead St. Joseph’s College to a 4-1 win over Thomas College on Thursday afternoon.
Two of Deah’s goals happened off direct corner-kick shots. Scott Desrosiers rounded out the scoring for Thomas. The Monks’ offense controlled much of the game with 28 shots, 17 on goal.
The lone goal for Thomas was tallied by Ryan Buttice, while keeper Ryan Conrad had 13 saves.
