Dear Sun Spots: The BookReach program of the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries is very much in need of committed, reliable volunteers to share about one morning hour per week, reading aloud to young children in Lewiston or Auburn. After attending a brief orientation, each volunteer reader is matched with a licensed family child-care home where he or she reads from a different bag of books every one to two weeks.
This is a wonderful opportunity for people who would enjoy introducing young children to the wonder of stories, and who are serious about giving to our community in a meaningful and positive way.
Please call Kathleen Demers, BookReach Coordinator, at 784-0135, ext. 213, to learn more. – Kathleen Demers, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: I am wondering if anyone in the Oxford Hills area has a size 3T or 4T ivory flower girl dress that they would be willing to sell to us at a reasonable price. Please call (207) 539-8489 if you can help us out. Thank you. – David, Jodi & Audrey Swasey, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I am writing to see if any of your faithful readers could please help me.
I am writing on behalf of an elderly friend who has several heart problems and is no longer able to get out or around like he used to. His hobby and favorite pastime is paint-by-numbers. His financial status does not allow him to be able to afford these kits brand-new, and he has tried to have family and friends find as many as possible at yard sales. There were few to be had. I know many people lose interest in their hobbies and many times throw them away, but if any of your readers has any of these paint-by-number kits and is looking to get rid of them, please contact Donna at (207) 777-6242. I will gladly pick them up within a 10-mile radius. Or they can be dropped off at my home, if you so choose.
I thank you, Sun Spots, for this wonderful column and for keeping our community connected and aware of each others’ needs! – Donna in Auburn.
