Harvest Days
BOWDOIN – Bowdoin Harvest Days will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, in the town to benefit the Sarah Cherry Scholarship Fund.
A variety show at 7 p.m. Friday will kick off events at the Bowdoin Central School. Activities will take place on Saturday starting with a 10 a.m. parade, which will leave from the firehouse.
A group of third-graders will sell crafts and used items at a table they call “The Best Place” at the FHC building and will donate all of their proceeds to the scholarship fund. Pumpkin growing contest winners will be named and there will be a baby contest, firemen’s muster, door prizes and bingo. A public baked bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Legion meeting
LISBON FALLS – Nelson-Conley Post 66, American Legion, will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Slovak Meeting Room, Avery Street. All members and active-duty personnel are invited to attend.
College planning
LEWISTON – Maine Educational Opportunity Center will hold an Essentials of College Planning workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Lewiston Career Center, 5 Mollison Dr. It will be conducted by center adviser Christy Le.
Adults considering college are invited to participate in the free college-planning workshop sponsored by the center.
Unlike student financial aid programs, which help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, the center has been providing support services to help students from low income and working families enter college since 1991.
The center services include assistance in choosing a college, tutoring personal and financial counseling, career counseling, assistance in applying to college, workplace and college visits and assistance in applying for financial aid.

Conference set
LISBON FALLS – Lisbon Falls Baptist Church will hold its 44th annual Mission Conference on Saturday through Thursday, Oct. 8 to 13.
The main speaker will be evangelist Pete Rice of Arizona. Other speakers will be Jan Polley of Pennsylvania, Henry and Vickie Cooper of Bolivia, Larry and Mellisa Strout of Argentina, Krystal Brewin and Beth Wilson, Child Evangelism Fellowship on Maine.
There will be a men’s breakfast at the church at 7 a.m. Saturday. All are welcome. The opening service will be at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 The evening service will begin at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 555 Lisbon Road. All are invited.
Country run
WALES – The third annual Close to the Cows Country 10K and the Calf One-Mile Fun Run will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Wales Central School, 175 Centre Road.
The registration table will be open at 7:30 a.m. Fees are $3 for the Calf One-Mile Fun Run and $10 prior to Oct. 1 and $12 thereafter for the Close to the Cows 10K. The Calf run will start at 8 a.m. and the 10K at 9 a.m.

Society speaker
LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, when Bill Barr will present “A Century Ago in Lisbon – 1905,” at the Lisbon Historical Society Archive Museum, MTM Center, School Street. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
Adoption
AUBURN – Adopting from China will be the topic from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Community Room, 10 Simpson Beach Road.
Those interested in learning more about adopting from China can attend Great Wall’s free workshop. Attendees will receive a coupon for $25 off the application fee.
