LEWISTON – The Dr. Paul Fortier Chapter 52, Association Canado-Americaine, will gather at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Senior Citizens Room, Multi-Purpose Center.
Following the group’s monthly business meeting there will be a brief presentation by scholar and musician Tom Faux. A Franco-American Maine native, Faux will discuss his recent research in Quebec and Central Maine, gathering data from folk musicians, arts presenters and community members about ongoing efforts to preserve and promote French cultural traditions in Franco communities on both sides of the border.
Members in attendance will have the opportunity to share with Faux their own reminiscences of house parties and other musical activities prevalent in the local Franco community in days gone by.
A PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at the University of Illinois, Faux holds a masters in ethnomusicology from Tufts University in Boston and a BA in music from the University of Southern Maine.
More information on the meeting or the Association Canado-Americaine is available by calling chapter Vice President Gerard Legare at 783-0606.
