ARCADIA, Fla. – John Homer Simmons, 63, of Arcadia, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 30, at a Portland hospital.

He was born in Greensburg, Ind., a son of John Dallas and Savannah Elizabeth Eidlewein Simmons. He was educated in the Greensburg Schools and graduated from Greensburg High School in the Class of 1960.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1963 and later worked for General Motors for 22 years.

John was a member of the Masons, a 32nd-degree Mason, and a member of the Murat Shrine in Temple, Ind.

His hobbies included trap-shooting, and he was a lifetime member of the Indiana Gun Club. He was also a member of the Amateur Trap Shooters Association and the Western Maine Gun Club. He had summered with family for the past five years in Otisfield.

Survivors include his wife of nine years, Cecille Simmons, of Arcadia, Fla.; a daughter, Janie J. Golding of Wichita, Kan.; a son, John J. Simmons and his wife, Connie, of Houston, Texas; three stepdaughters, Tara Wosny and her husband, John, of Millis, Mass., Charmaine Nicholls and her husband, Jimmy, of Raynham, Mass., and Shelagh Manning of Hyde Park, Mass.; two granddaughters, Kaitlin and Macy Simmons of Houston, Texas; and six step-grandchildren.
