FARMINGTON – Beatrice Caouette Porell, 86, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, at Sandy River Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington, following a long illness.

Born in 1919 in Ste. Evariste, Quebec, she immigrated to the United States with her parents, Archelas and Alphonsine (Marceau) Caouette, when she was 3 years old. She lived in Jay and Livermore Falls for most of her life.

After graduating with high honors from Jay High School at 16, she went on to work as a bookkeeper in several area businesses, including International Paper Co. She readily volunteered to work for many nonprofit organizations throughout her life, working as an outreach volunteer for the elderly in Franklin County before she retired.

A loving mother and grandmother, she took great pleasure in the activities of her children and grandchildren. A kind and gracious woman, everyone knew that an extra place could always be set at her table for anyone who stopped by to visit.

On Aug. 7, 1944, she married Germain W. Porell of Sanford; he died on July 16, 2002. They had been married for 57 years.

She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Jay and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include her sister, Florence Nadeau of Farmington; a son, Robert Porell and his wife, Isabelle, of Windham; two daughters, Gloria Driggers and her husband, Carl, of Litchfield, N.H., and Nancy Schaeffer and her husband, Aubrey, of Livermore Falls; nine grandchildren, Alison Porell of Brookline, Mass., Nicholas Porell of Raymond, Laurie Driggers Johnston of Orange, Calif., Brian Driggers and his wife, Katrinka, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Jason Driggers and his wife, Katherine, of Hooksett, N.H., Shawn Driggers of Litchfield, N.H., Jennifer Wright and her husband, Everett, of Jay, Kathleen Lecowitch and her husband, Peter, of Livermore Falls, and Scott Bonney and his wife, Janelle, of Liberty Lake, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Alphonse and Armand Caouette; as well as her first-born son, Maurice Porell, who died a few weeks after his birth.
