LIVERMORE FALLS – During warm-ups Wednesday, Telstar coach Gail Wight stressed the importance of teamwork to her players.

The players took those words to heart. Danna Wilson scored a goal and added an assist as Telstar put forth its version of total-team effort in a 3-0 shutout against high-scoring Livermore Falls.

The Rebels won their 10th straight game.

The contest was a reversal of a 3-0 victory by Livermore Falls when the two teams met last month.

If the two team win out, Telstar (10-1) will host the Andies (9-2) in the MVC championship game.

“This was an exciting game,” Wight said. “It was the best game the team has played so far this season. Everybody did the little things that made a difference, and they really hustled through out the entire game.”

Telstar seized the attack early and Kayla Mills set the tone with a goal five minutes into the game. The play began with Chea Davis flicking a shot at Andies goalie Sam Whiting, who made the pad save. The ball caromed out to Mills, who was unmarked on the right post.

Livermore Falls never generated any consistent offensive flow, as forward Taryn Flagg and wing Erica Gats were unable to break free.

“We entered the game with a positive attitude,” Wilson said. “Every one worked hard and we were successful at hitting through the ball. That allowed us to stay on the attack.”

The Telstar defense proved to be stout with fullback Jillian Kimball rushing forward to disrupt play. Halfbacks Kelsey Dole, Lauren Conroy and Liz Rosenberg also cleared several balls out of the zone.

Telstar went ahead 2-0 when the Andies failed to clear the ball and Wilson used a reverse stick to beat Whiting (11 saves).

“We used things that we have been working on,” Wilson said. “Things like the give-and-go, and there was no backing up. We went after the ball.”

Mallory Brown scored in the second half. Livermore Falls best chances came on shots by Flagg and Tricia Richard, but Telstar goalie tandem of Stephanie Tripp and Heather Gionet each made the save.

“The return of Bailey Davis was a factor,” Wight said. “We had a rhythm out on the field. Even the underclassmen Chel Bean, Josie Reiss and Whitney Mills made contributions.”
