AUBURN – A Lewiston man accused of forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him last week has been indicted by the Androscoggin County grand jury.

Glenn Eric Lawson, 43, of 110 Pierce St., Lewiston, faces charges of gross sexual assault and failing to register as a sex offender or sexually violent predator.

Grand jurors handed up the indictments Friday.

Lawson is accused of forcing a Lewiston woman to perform the sex act after he followed her to her apartment on Ash Street. He had earlier asked her for directions when they bumped into one another as she was walking home from a nearby store.

According to a police affidavit, Lawson began propositioning the woman shortly after they met on the street. The woman told him she was married and had children and needed to get home to get them ready for school.

She was allegedly assaulted by Lawson shortly afterward when she found that one door to her apartment was locked and went to use a second door.

Ten or 15 minutes into the alleged assault a school bus stopped near the house and beeped its horn. That distracted Lawson, the affidavit noted, and the woman was able to run to another doorway and get into her apartment.

Shortly afterward her husband returned home and she told him about the assault. He went outside and found and detained Lawson until police arrived.

Police said Lawson has a history of assault, terrorizing, drug possession and carrying a concealed weapon since an initial arrest in Lewiston last May.

Court records list him as a registered sex offender in Massachusetts. The indictment says he failed to register as a sex offender as required to in Maine.

A trial date hasn’t been set.
