Cat show set

BATH – A championship and household cat show will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m Saturday, Oct. 15, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Bath Middle School, 6 Old Brunswick Road.

Judging will take place both days of the show, sponsored by the United Maine Coon Cat Association. Admission is $5 for adults; $3, children. There will be a raffle, vendors and food. For more information, call 725-5745.

Seek princess

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Maine State Society of Washington, D.C., is seeking candidates for Maine’s Cherry Blossom Princess to represent the state and the society in the 59th annual National Cherry Blossom Festival from April 2 through 8.

Neither a beauty pageant nor talent competition, the festival is an opportunity for a young woman to represent Maine and the society at the non-governmental, civic and social event in the nation’s capital.

Candidates must be at least 19 and not have reached their 25th birthday at the time of the festival; be a Maine native or be the daughter, granddaughter, sister or niece of a Maine native, or have other longtime, significant Maine connections; be at least a high school graduate and knowledgeable about Maine; have never been married; and be available for the entire festival week.

Audubon events

FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon will host two evening programs from 4 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, with live gray wolves at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center. The next day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, Maine Audubon will hold its 18th annual Apple Day festival at Gilsland Farm.

In the wolf programs, participants will learn from Montana biologists about wolf myths, folklore and facts such as behavior, habitat and restoration efforts.

Each wolf program is $10/adult, $5/child for Audubon members or $12/adult, $6/child for nonmembers. The first program is suggested for families with children ages 8 and younger. The second program is suggested for families with children ages 9 and up. Advance registration is necessary; call 781-2330.
