LEWISTON – Gertrude M. Dick, 81, of 10 Oak Park, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in East Fairfield, Vermont, on March 24, 1924, the daughter of Leo and Lillian Petrin Boutin.

She was married Sept. 28, 1946, to Robert James Dick Sr., who died June 16, 1974.

Prior to her retirement in 1984, she was employed as a weaver at Bates Manufacturing Co.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.

She enjoyed knitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being an avid Red Sox fan, it brought her joy to live through one World Series championship.

She valued education more than anything, and found happiness in supporting three children through college and watching nine grandchildren receive their degrees. She was so inspired, that she found the strength and courage to finish her very own GED after having left the classroom more than 60 years ago.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Trickey and her husband, Jace, of Westbrook, and Lillian Castonguay and her husband, Gerald, of Greene; a son, Stephen Dick and his wife, Claire, of New Orleans, La.; a stepdaughter, Muriel Falco and her husband, Pasco, of Rhode Island, and a step daughter-in-law, Gladys Dick of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three sisters, Cecile Lessard of Lewiston, Therese Verville of Santa Monica, Calif., and Jeannine Bernier and her husband, Normand, of Litchfield.

She was predeceased by a daughter Sandra Lee Dick, a stepson Donald Dick, a sister, Gloria Hamel and a brother Ronald Boutin.
