LEEDS – Charles W. Dunn, 88, of Leeds, died Tuesday, Oct. 4.

He was born in Turner on Dec. 26, 1916, the son of J. Ralph and Carrie (Whitney) Dunn, and was educated in local schools.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946.

In his younger days, he worked in the woods and later worked as a truck driver for Bessey Foods in Buckfield and for Burnham & Morrill in Portland before his retirement.

He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed playing cards and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (Jones) Dunn of Leeds; one daughter, Charlene Burgess of Turner; one sister, Madeline Brown of Buckfield; three grandchildren, Eric Dawes of Lewiston, and Melissa Rowe and Dwayne Burgess, both of Turner; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Rowe and Braxton Rowe, both of Turner.

He was predeceased by one son, Michael Dunn; four brothers, Ralph “Elmer” Dunn, Bernard “Bunny” Dunn, Robert Dunn and Lawrence Dunn; and two sisters, Beede Holt and Isabel Halloran.
