AUGUSTA – Former high school athletes Alexa Kaubris of Dirigo and Jonathan Pirruccello of Leavitt are among eight graduated seniors who will receive $500 scholarships from Maine Sports Legends at their annual awards banquet Sunday at the Augusta Civic Center.
Also being honored are Ben Wakana of Caribou, Natasha Deschene of Presque Isle, James Randell Jr. of Washington, Tamlyn Frederick of Foxcroft, Shawn Paquette of Thornton and Melissa Verrill of Sacopee Valley.
Kaubris, an all-state player who was ranked No. 1 in her class, led Dirigo to the Class C girls’ basketball championship. She was also a standout player for Dirigo’s soccer and track teams. She is attending Bowdoin College.
An all-state defensive end, Pirruccello also played basketball and track. He is currently a member of the University of Maine football team.
Maine Sports Legends will also induct five athletes into their Hall of Honors – Robert White, Robert Kelley, Bunny Paradis, Paul Rodrigue and Joanne Palombo McCallie.
The banquet begns a 12:30 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony and awardimg of scholarships. Tickets are $35 and can be obtained by calling 622-1539 or by e-mailing [email protected].
State golf meet moved to Monday
AUGUSTA – Expected bad weather has cancelled today’s scheduled Maine high school state golf team championships at Natanis Golf Club.
The match will be held Monday, Oct 10, starting at 10 a.m.
