WILMINGTON, Del. – The Lewiston Smashers 14-and-under tennis team is representing the Lewiston Rec and the New England region this weekend at the U.S.A Team Tennis tournament for the second year in a row. The three-day tournament crowns a champion on Sunday based on the highest total number of wins by all team members.
In Friday action against the Bronx Finest, the Smashers won four matches. In singles, Elliot Chicoine won a pair of games, 4-0, 4-0, and Chantelle Lavirtue won 4-3, 4-1. Doubles team Francesca Lally and Abby Blaisdell had a 4-2, 4-1 day, and mixed doubles team Emily Cloutier and Michael Butler survived a nail biter, 4-3 (12-10) before winning 4-2.
The team has a busy day on Saturday, playing teams from Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York before finishing Sunday with a match against Eastern Massachusetts.
