LEWISTON – The Montello School Fall Festival Committee will raffle off unique and valuable memorabilia from local and regional sports teams on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Featured in this year’s raffle are an authentic 2005-2006 autographed Boston Celtics team basketball, an autographed baseball from World Champion Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar and an autographed MAINEiacs jersey.
The raffle also includes chances to win all-day passes to Water Country, ski passes to Lost Valley and restaurant gift certificates. There are approximately 50 items to be raffled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Advance tickets are available by calling 782-7597 or 786-0924. The cost of a ticket is $1 or six for $5.
The festival will also feature a number of silent auction items. Highlights will include two sets of Boston Bruins tickets, loge seats – one set is for the Pittsburgh Penguins game featuring Sydney Crosby on Nov. 5, packages to local golf courses, artwork by Mercedes Gastonguay and a romantic evening at a local inn.
The festival will be filled with activities for children and families throughout the day. Children’s activities will include a climbing wall, Sponge Bob Bounce, pony rides, wagon hay rides and kid’s games. Louis and Claire Bourgoin will provide lunch and snacks at the Montello Fall Festival Caf. Principal Gus Leblanc will be in charge of fried dough.
Proceeds will be used to make renovations to the school playground. According to Donna Tardif, Montello kindergarten teacher and 2006 Maine Teacher of the Year, “With the high academic standards children face in today’s schools, it is more important than ever for students to have access to quality playground equipment. After a morning of engaged study, it is vital for children to climb, jump and slide as a means of decreasing stress. Recess provides a short mental break which allows children to re-energize and be able to focus again for an afternoon of further learning.”
As the largest public elementary school in the state, Montello’s playgrounds are used by more than 850 students daily and many more children after hours. Sheri Rosen of the Boston Red Sox Community Relations Department said, “If a cause is important to one of our fans, the cause becomes meaningful to us; we appreciate the time and energy you invest with the hopes of making a difference.”
