Teen shelter and counseling program New Beginnings will celebrate 25 years this weekend with an open house and 5-kilometer run.

The open house hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday. The shelter is at 491 Main St, the Transitional Living Programs are at 436 and 597 Main St., and the Outreach Program is at 245 Lisbon St.

Celebrations continue on Sunday with the Second Annual 5K run and walk. The race will be officially timed on a 3.1-mile course through downtown Lewiston.

Race registration fee is $15 for adults. Children under 12 are free. The first 100 registrants will receive complimentary T-shirts. Food and entertainment will follow the race awards ceremonies.

Ceremonies continue with lunch at noon in the Multi-Purpose Center gym and presentations by state Sen. Peggy Rotundo and program alumni. Lunch will followed by a performance by musician Bill Cameron. There is no charge for the luncheon.

The emergency shelter opened its doors in 1980 in Greene. It has housed more than 6,400 teens since then. The Lewiston-based youth services agency also provides transitional living, outreach, and HIV prevention services for runaway and homeless youths ages 12-21.
