NORWAY – Ruth B. Curtis, 83, of Skowhegan, died Oct. 6, at the Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway following a long illness.
She was born in North Waterford on June 19, 1922, a daughter of Henry S. and Frances G. (McAllister) Bennett.
She was educated in the schools of Bethel and graduated from UMF in 1976 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.
She married Ervil Curtis on Sept. 2, 1945. He died on March 15, 1996.
She first taught school in Lovell, Bridgton, Cornville, Lubec and Newry. Later, she worked many years in the Skowhegan and Waterville area as a nurse retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Skowhegan, D.A.R, Maine State Teachers Retirement Association, and the Federated Church of Skowhegan.
She enjoyed listening to tape recorded story books. Ruth loved to travel and enjoyed being with children.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda C. Westleigh and her husband, Reginald, of West Bethel; Nadine K. Hughes and her husband, David, of Poland; two sons, Henry E. Curtis and his wife, Louisa, of Warren, Mass.; Arthur L. Curtis and his wife, Joyce, of Skowhegan; a sister, Isabelle Bennett of Lexington, Mass; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister, Alice; and a daughter, Donna Gray.
