NEW SHARON – A Sept. 11 burglary in New Sharon was solved over the weekend with the assistance of state police in Somerset County, according to Franklin County Deputy Aaron Turcotte.
Five Somerset County teens were arrested when they confessed to two burglaries – one in New Sharon and an Oct. 1 break-in at a store in Athens, Turcotte said Monday.
State Trooper Derek Record made the connection between the two incidents while investigating the Athens case, Turcotte said. According to Lt. Dale Lancaster of the state police barracks in Skowhegan, Record was not on duty Monday and not available to comment on details of the Somerset County burglary.
On Sept. 11, the five teens – four 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old – forced their way into Sandy River Farm Supply in New Sharon and took six 30-packs and several 6-packs of beer and other assorted alcohol-laced drinks in two separate trips, police said. They also made several failed attempts at other stores in Somerset County, according to Turcotte.
Brian Franke, 18, of Skowhegan, was arrested along with the four juveniles, all of whom were charged with two counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in Franklin County. Charges levied in Somerset County were not available Monday.
The juveniles are scheduled to appear in Franklin County Court on Dec. 14. Franke will appear Dec. 28.
