LEWISTON – William M. Andrews, 81, formerly of 1500 Main St., Lewiston, died Friday evening, Oct. 7, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lewiston, on Aug. 14, 1924, the son of George I. and Marie A. Andrews. He was educated at St. Peter’s Elementary School, and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1943. He furthered his education at the University of Maine and received his mechanical engineering degree.

After working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., he returned to Lewiston and married Irene A. Chenard on May 3, 1952, and there they raised four daughters.

He retired from Philips Elmet in 1987, after 35 years of service. He also taught algebra and calculus at CMVTI evening classes.

He was known for his love of family, many friends, athletic abilities, and the gift to gab. He also had a great passion and talent for music and the arts. He played the viola, violin and cello for the Bates College Symphony Orchestra, as well as a local quartet. He was truly a master of all musical instruments. He was a member of the Raboni “105” Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; his daughters, Constance A. Provencher and David of Lewiston, Joann P. Keenan and Steve of Scarborough, Anita I. Marcoux and her fianc, Gary Blackman, of Brewer, and Lynda M. Arsenault and Brian of Lisbon; six grandchildren, Lacy L. Provencher, Brandon R. and Meagan M. Marcoux, Lauren M., and Emily J. Keenan and Ian A. Arsenault; and three stepgrandchildren, Chad M., Patricia L. and David W. Provencher; a close cousin, Raymond Tanguay; and many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a granddaughter, Ashley Irene Keenan.
