JAY – Two people from Livermore were injured when their vehicles collided on Franklin Road on Tuesday night.
Rita Labrecque, 79, was traveling east on Hyde Road in a 1999 Ford Contour, and a witness said she didn’t stop at the stop sign, Jay Police Sgt. Charles Keene said Tuesday.
John Belmonte, 50, who was heading south on Franklin Road in a 1993 Dodge Caravan, couldn’t do anything to avoid Labrecque’s car and hit it on the back door on the driver’s side, he said. He just missed the driver’s door, Keene said.
Jay firefighters had to pry open Labrecque’s door to get her out, he said.
Both Belmonte and Labrecque complained of neck pain and were taken by NorthStar Emergency Medical Services’ ambulances to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released, Keene said.
Keene and officer Russell Adams worked at the scene, where traffic was tied up at times. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene, he said.
