Harvest meal

RUMFORD – Rumford Grange will have its annual Harvest Dinner at noon Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Rumford Center Grange Hall. The prices are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.

Church speaker

FARMINGTON – The Rev. Dr. Jennifer Knust will be the guest preacher on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. Knust teaches New Testament on the faculty of Boston University School of Theology. She is an ordained American Baptist minister and a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon. Knust will talk on “The City of God,” based on the gospel text in Matthew 22:15-22.

Writing conclave

AUGUSTA – Writing teachers from Maine universities, community colleges and high schools will convene at the University of Maine at Augusta on Saturday, Oct. 22, for the Maine Composition Coalition Conference, “Sharing What We Know: Conversations among Writing Teachers.”

The conference will provide an opportunity for writing teachers statewide to get to know each other, to discuss what is meant by “readiness” for college and to share teaching strategies.

The sponsors include the state’s university and community college systems as well as the Maine Department of Education. It will be held in UMA’s Jewett Hall auditorium, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Writing workshop

AUBURN – The Small Business Institute at Central Maine Community College is offering Writing the Business Plan (SBI 021-01), the final workshop of its current series for new small business owners, from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 1. The cost is $25.

The workshop covers the components and critical functions of a business plan and how to use the business plan to get the funding small business owners need.
