POLAND – Alicia Dube scored on a breakaway with 3 seconds to play in the first half, and Lauren Burgess added an insurance goal early in the second, as the Poland girls’ soccer team won its first game in two seasons, taking home 2-0 victory over Old Orchard Beach on Friday.
Dube took a pass from Courtney Gray and streaked past the defense, going in alone and netting the eventual game-winner. Burgess scored one minute into the period on a shot that hit Seagull goalie Amanda Nadeau squarely. The ball crossed the goal line after she fell over recovering from the save.
Caitlin Bartlett stopped nine shots for the shutout, clinching the victory and keeping Old Orchard winless on the season (0-14). Nadeau finished the game with 15 saves.
Falmouth 5, St. Dom’s 0
AUBURN – Lindsay Lanouette scored a pair of goals in the second half to break open the game as Falmouth defeated St. Dom’s, 5-0, in girls’ soccer on Friday.
Courtney Gallagher kicked off the scoring with a goal with 12:13 remaining in the first half, and Lanouette opened the second with her two scores.
Allie Bifulco and Carly Applebaum also scored, and the Saints were held without a shot in the game as Falmouth (11-1-2) rebounded from its first loss of the season earlier this week.
Katie Lyon and Shandra McManus split time in goal for St. Dom’s (8-4-1), combining for nine saves.
Field hockey
Hebron 4, Waynflete 1
HEBRON – Tiffany Bichrest scored all four goals for Hebron Academy in a 4-1 victory over Waynflete in field hockey action on Friday.
Bichrest fired home the only score that Hebron would need with 6:43 to play in the first half and continued her offensive explosion with three more in the second frame. Jasmine Webber chipped in with a pair of assists.
Marley Lumbard only needed three saves to clinch the victory for Hebron (3-3). Charlotte Harvey scored an unassisted goal for Waynflete (0-15). Goalie Carrie Schnell stopped 13 shots.
