To quote the “Our View” stance on Question 1 in the Oct. 10 Sun Journal, “For the umpteenth time, it’s not about same-sex marriage. It’s about ending discrimination.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
How many times must we hear Paul Madore and his cohorts try to make us believe otherwise? I will be voting no on this question, and I hope the majority of other Maine citizens will do the same so that we can finally put this issue to rest.
We, as Mainers, do not show prejudice on other issues, so why should we do so on this one? Please, do not try to bring God and religion into this debate, as I firmly believe he would not discriminate against any of his children.
This would be a very boring existence if we all were alike in every aspect. Homosexuals are simply different in their sexual orientation. They are, by and large, a wonderful group of people, and I feel blessed to count some of them as my good friends. I cannot imagine anyone discriminating against them for this reason, or any other for that matter.
I pray that the majority of Maine citizens will join me in voting no in November. All Mainers would be better off if we refuse to let this homophobia become legal again in our great state.
