With many roads under water, emergency management officials have issued the following safety tips for motorists:

n Do not drive into flooded areas.

n Watch for trouble areas such as highway dips and low areas.

n If water rises around your car, abandon it and move to higher ground.

n Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars and cause loss of control or stalling.

n A foot of water will float many vehicles.

n Two feet of rushing water can carry away pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.
