AUBURN – Mayors Normand and Lionel Guay joined in the festivities recently as Boys and Girls Club of Auburn/Lewiston celebrated receipt of a $5,000 grant resulting from a national partnership between Boys and Girls Clubs of America and JC Penney.
The event, held at the New Auburn Community Center at 43 Second St., showcased Power Hour, an after-school program proven to help youth succeed in school by building their academic skills. Representing the local JC Penney store was John Caringi, store manager, and two of his colleagues.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Boys and Girls Club of Auburn/Lewiston serves more than 500 youth each year by providing a safe and supportive environment during the critical after-school hours. Programming centers around five core areas, education and career development, character and leadership development, the arts, health & life skills and sports, fitness and recreation – which are designed to nurture young people during their informative years.
