LEWISTON – Edward Bernard Yokell, 88, a resident of d’Youville Pavilion and formerly of 150 Avenue Road, Wales, died Monday, Oct. 17, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 30, 1916, the son of Marshall and Edna (Wallingford) Yokell. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School Class of 1937.
When World War II was declared, he chose to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served in the Combat Medical Corps in France and Italy.
He worked for a while as a machinist, but most of his working years were spent in the shoe industry, from which he retired in 1981.
He was an avid reader, a solitary man. He was a simple man, having simple needs.
He is survived by a brother, Francis Yokell of Lewiston; three sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Allen of Wales, Mrs. Barbara Murray of Lisbon and Mrs. Joan Willette of Wales; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Marshall, George and Albert Yokell; and his sisters, Pearl Gray and Sylvia Acheson.
