FARMINGTON – The October meeting night of Farmington Emblem Club 460 started with a dessert tasting party followed with demonstrations of three area youth cheering squads.

Club President Quinnale Kinsey opened the meeting with 36 members present and 70 absent. She presented Community Service Chairwoman Nancy Chase the Delia Z. Community Service Award. It was presented to the club at the national convention held in Boston during September. Chase was not able to attend the convention, so those who attended kept it a secret until the meeting.

Debbie Holt, in charge of the Nov. 5 and Dec. 3 Emblem Club-sponsored craft fairs, reported on the November fair. She said there are still tables available for rent. Cutlery will be sold at the fair and Scholarship Chairwoman Jean Corcoran will have a book sale. Members are asked to bring books for the sale to the next meeting.

Americanism Chairwoman Nancy Chase read a poem and reminded members to fly their flags on Columbus Day.

Community Service Chairwoman Claudette Merchant reminded members of the blood drive to be held at the hospital. The club will donate sweatpants to Carley Pomerleau’s “Gifts from the Heart” program.

The annual Thanksgiving dinner for area nursing homes will be held at the West Farmington Elks Lodge on Nov. 20.

Shannon Smith reported on the dance, sponsored by the Farmington Emblem Club, will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at the West Farmington Elks Lodge with music by the Travelers. Candles will be sold by the Literacy Committee during the Christmas season.

Sylvia Richards, Emblem Farmington Fair food booth chairwoman, reported a successful week. She thanked those who worked at the Elk and Emblem booth as waitresses and kitchen help.

Donations were made to Edgewood Manor and Orchard Park to help purchase candy for Halloween, to the Elk National Foundation, to the area cheering squads for help in purchasing floor mats and to Emblem member, Valery Taylor, who is recovering from surgery.
