TURNER – Students from Turner Primary, elementary, Tripp Middle School and Leavitt Area High School held a one-day change collection recently to benefit survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
Staff and students combined efforts and collected $5,303.78, which has been donated to the American Red Cross. Students scoured under cushions, checked in clothes pockets and saved change for a week to bring in for the drive.
Amy Lyn Smith and friends at Androscoggin Savings Bank on Turner Street in Auburn counted up the money with their change counting machine. Bucket after bucket of change was counted.
Jenny Grover of Turner Elementary School with help of friends and family raised a total of $500.
