PORTLAND – Singer/actress Ashlee Simpson, star of her own MTV reality series, “The Ashlee Simpson Show,” will perform Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the State Theatre. Tickets go on sale at noon today.

Tickets are $34.50 in advance, $36.50 day of show, general admission. They may be purchased in person only at the Cumberland County Civic Center 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; by calling (207) 775-3331; at all Ticketmaster outlets; or online at www.LiveAtTheState.com.

After one album, Simpson has experienced more highs and lows than many artists do in an entire career. “I Am Me,” her follow-up to her explosive 2004 debut, “Autobiography,” showcases a singer-songwriter who has matured from her time in the glare of public scrutiny. Once again teaming up with veteran producer John Shanks, the 21-year-old co-wrote all of the album’s 10 tracks. From the straight up party anthem of “L.O.V.E.” to the steeped-in-loneliness ballad “Catch Me When I Fall” to the triumphant lead single “Boyfriend,” Simpson explores a range of emotions and musical styles.

The Waco, Texas-born Ashlee (sister of Jessica) has been dancing since age 3; and by 11, she was the youngest person ever admitted into the prestigious School of American Ballet. She moved to L.A. with her parents and Jessica when she was 14, pursuing an acting career and dancing in her sister’s stage show, but dreaming of doing music all the while.

She went on to make appearances on “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The View” before landing a regular role in “Seventh Heaven.” Last year, she had the track “Just Let Me Cry” on Disney’s “Freaky Friday” soundtrack, and then began recording earlier this year on breaks from filming the TV show.

Simpson recently appeared on “Saturday Night Live” as an attempted do-over of her disastrous appearance last fall – and sang her new song about that disastrous appearance. “Catch Me When I Fall” is one of two songs on “I Am Me” that deals with the “SNL” crisis, the other being “Beautifully Broken.” Simpson also sang her latest single, “Boyfriend,” with the aid of a backup vocalist as her second performance.

The Nov. 9 concert will begin at 7 p.m. The State Theatre is located at 609 Congress St.
