MONTREAL – Steve Begin scored with 1:45 left in the third period to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night.

Montreal, which is 4-0 on the road this season, took a 3-2 lead in the third period when Begin set up Christopher Higgins’ go-ahead goal at 13:28.

Begin carried the puck down the right wing and made a cross-ice pass.

Winger Jan Bulis tapped it along to the left to Higgins, who kicked the puck ahead before beating Rick DiPietro with a shot along the ice to restore Montreal’s lead.

Alexei Yashin scored his fourth goal of the season at 17:07 as New York tied the game 3-3. He deflected a shot off Jose Theodore’s right pad and into the net with 2:53 left in the third period.

Begin got his third goal of the season at 18:15 as Montreal evened its record at the Bell Centre at 2-2.

Miroslav Satan scored a pair of power-play goals for the Islanders, including the tying goal 18:45 into the second period. Defenseman Alexei Zhitnik assisted on both goals.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Daniel Briere and Ales Kotalik scored power-play goals to lift the Buffalo Sabres over the New York Rangers 3-1.

Hurricanes 4, Capitals 0

WASHINGTON – Cory Stillman had a goal and an assist, and the Carolina Hurricanes fired 41 shots at embattled goaltender Olaf Kolzig in cruising past the Washington Capitals 4-0.

Thrashers 4, Devils 3

ATLANTA – Marc Savard and Ronald Petrovicky scored 40 seconds apart late in the third period, rallying Atlanta to a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Wings 6, Blue Jackets 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jason Williams scored his first three goals of the season in the opening 16 minutes, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Flyers 5, Maple Leafs 2

TORONTO – Donald Brashear had a goal and an assist in the third period and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 for their third straight victory.

Wild 3, Blues 2

ST. LOUIS – Brian Rolston had a goal to extend his scoring streak to five games, and Marian Gaborik added two assists, as the Minnesota Wild overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2.

Predators 2, Sharks 1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Scott Hartnell scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, and Tomas Vokoun stopped 37 shots to help the Nashville Predators improve to 7-0-0 with a 2-1 victory over the Jose Sharks.
