This is in reference to the Rev. Seavey incident. I believe that with or without a collar, a priest should uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church, and should never express an opinion contrary to those teachings.
Regarding homosexual behavior and discrimination, Catholics and Christians not only have a right, but a duty to discriminate. Discriminating right and virtuous behavior from wrong and sinful behavior is our responsibility as Catholics and Christians.
Immoral behavior should never be accepted or promoted under the accusation of discrimination. It is wrong to hate and intentionally hurt others, but certainly not wrong to discern that sinfulness will harm the souls of countless people.
Because we are all children of God, charity and compassion call us to pray for the person, not condone their immoral actions and lifestyle choices.
