CUMBERLAND – The Lisbon Greyhounds turned in a three-peat performance Saturday at the Western Maine Cross Country Championships.

Junior Tyler Clark turned in a winning time of 17:06 at the Twin Brooks course in Cumberland.

But the real difference was the pack of four Greyhound runners finishing in the seven top spots.

Aaron Cloutier led the group with his seventh-place overall finish, with Nick Caton holding down the 12th spot just five seconds later.

“The pack ran very well,” said Lisbon coach Hank Fuller, whose team will attempt to win its third consecutive state title on Saturday in Turner. “Sometimes you have one person leading, but it went back and forth. In the last third of the race, they asserted themselves.”

Clark would have turned in a better time, but he had to at times push his way through the Class A and B competitors who were walking the course during the C race.

Justin Richardson of St. Dom’s was runner-up in a time of 17:28, with Winthrop’s Danny Soltan placing third with a time of 18:01.

Winthrop finished 36 points behind Lisbon’s total of 33. Freeport was third with 99 points, followed by St. Dom’s (100 points).

The girls race belonged to heavy favorite Freeport, which bested Monmouth by a 42-86 margin.

On the Class B boys’ side, Poland’s Nick Williams finished second overall with a time of 16:51, eight seconds behind individual winner Miles Bartlett of Lake Region.
