CHICOPEE, Mass. – Junior midfielder Kellen Brown scored his first goal of the year in the 24th minute as the University of Maine at Farmington bowed to a 1-1 with Elms College in men’s soccer action on Saturday.
The Beavers (3-7-3) applied heavy pressure in the first overtime and nearly won with 6:31 remaining when sophomore forward Craig Cameron broke down the far side past two defenders, gathered a cross from senior forward Joe Conway, and blasted a shot that bounced off the near post.
Senior midfielder Vuthy Chhum scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 85th minute to even up the contest.
Eastern Connecticut 1, USM 0
GORHAM – Junior David Sutera scored the lone goal of the game in the 36th minute off a pass from Jeff Mitchell to lead Eastern Connecticut to a 1-0 win against University of Southern Maine in men’s soccer on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Jay Barney needed just five saves to pick up the shutout for Eastern Connecticut (7-7-1).
Chris Willard had six saves in net for the Huskies (4-8-3).
Becker 2, Thomas 1
LEICESTER, Mass. – Alcy Riche scored the game-winning goal unassisted in the second overtime to lead Becker to a 2-1 triumph over Thomas.
Thomas drew first blood when Tyler Simpson found the back of the net off a feed from Ben McQuade at the 54:58 mark in the second half. Becker’s then tied it with a goal at 77:25. Chris Kirwan made seven saves in net for Becker (4-8-3).
Colby 2, Connecticut 1
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Will Kinder scored with 12:18 to play, lifting Colby College to a 2-1 victory over Connecticut College in NESCAC men’s soccer action on Saturday.
The Mules (7-6) took a 1-0 lead 5:45 into the contest when Bobby Abendroth recovered a loose ball in front of the net and chipped one in for the lead.
The Camels (4-8) evened the score with a goal from David Kellogg in the 14th minute, and the score remained tied at the half.

Maine 1, UConn 0
ORONO – Kelly Law scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Sheri Wauters 2:25 into overtime to give the University of Maine Black Bears a 1-0 victory over University of Connecticut.
Genevieve Turgeon made 20 saves to earn the shutout for the Black Bears (3-2).
Connecticut 2, Colby 1
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Jill Mauer netted the eventual game-winner at 44:28 to lift Connecticut College to a 2-1 win over Colby in women’s soccer action Saturday.
With nine seconds remaining in regulation, Jennifer Reilly put one in for the Mules (4-7) to spoil the shutout.
Sophomore Alex Albright tallied a first-half score and assisted on the game-winner for the Camels (7-5) in the winning effort.
Field hockey
UMass-Dartmouth 2, USM 1
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore Amy McGillicuddy knocked in the game-winning goal 1:35 into the second overtime to give University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth a 2-1 victory over University of Southern Maine. Robin Dziedzic netted the game’s first goal on an assist from Caitlin Dicecca for UMass-Dartmouth (7-7).
USM’s Alyssa Kraus scored the game-tying goal on a pass from Irene Coleman at the 46:06 mark in the second half.
Women’s soccer
Bowdoin 3, Trinity 0
HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore forward Katherine Whitley had a goal and an assist to lead Bowdoin College to a 3-0 victory over Trinity College in NESCAC women’s soccer action on Saturday.
The first half remained scoreless until Whitley put the game’s first goal past Bantam (3-7-1) sophomore goalkeeper Tara Finucane on a pass from senior Kelsey Wilcox.
The Polar Bears (8-4-1) scored twice in the second half, as Whitley fed senior Danielle Chagnon on one score and sophomore Roberta Dennison netted an unassisted goal.
Colby 3, Connecticut 2
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior midfielder Liz Morbeck netted her second goal of the day with 3:46 left in the second overtime to lift Colby to a 3-2 victory over Connecticut College in NESCAC women’s soccer action on Saturday.
The Camels (3-7-1) took a 1-0 lead at the eight-minute mark when senior back Margaret Bacon served up a corner for Claire Linden, who buried the header for her first collegiate score.
The Mules (7-2-3) knotted up the contest with a pair of goals just two minutes apart in the latter stages of the second half.
Laura Williams netted the equalizer with 23 minutes remaining by putting back a rebound off a Meggie Herlihy shot.
Football
Plymouth State 21, Husson 19
BANGOR – Sophomore fullback John DeMarco scored all three Panther touchdowns while rushing for 107 yards on 27 carries to lead Plymouth State to a 21-19 win over Husson College in football action Saturday.
The Eagles (2-3) took a brief 12-7 lead late in the first quarter on a seven-play, 45-yard drive which was finished off with a 5-yard run by Julius Williams.
Trailing 21-12, quarterback David Chase of Sabattus and sophomore receiver James Dobson pulled out a timely 31-yard touchdown and picked up the point after with less than six minutes remaining to close the gap to 21-19.
Husson had a chance to go ahead with 2:26 remaining on a 26-yard field goal attempt, but Darren Guathier’s kick hit the right upright, bounced towards the middle and failed to go through, giving the Panthers (3-5) the victory.
