FARMINGTON – David Joseph West, 56, of Wilton, died peacefully early Monday morning, Oct. 24, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1949, in Rumford, a son of Joseph and Jean (Leighton) West Jr. He grew up on the Holman farm in Dixfield and attended schools in Dixfield, graduating in 1967 from Dixfield Regional High School. He attended Thomas College in Waterville for one year and spent the following 20 years in Alaska, working in the construction field.
In 1989, he returned to Maine where he met and married Patricia Davis in 1990. He was employed with the MDOT in the survey department since 1990.
He enjoyed acoustic music and fiddle tunes, and was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by his wife, Patty, and their daughter, Hannah Louise West, both of Wilton; his mother, Jean West of Wilton; two brothers, James West and his wife, Susan, of Standish, and their children, Laura and Kevin West, and Steven West and his wife, Karen, of Farmington and their children, Alexandra, Matthew and Marina; and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph West Jr., who died in 1992.
