OTISFIELD – Planning Board members have asked for additional documentation from the applicant of a proposed camp on Saturday Pond before they vote whether to approve the project.
Board Chairman Rick Micklon said Thursday that if the documents are received in a timely manner and they conform to the town’s site plan review ordinance, the board should be able to vote on the project at its regular meeting in either November or December.
“It’s really back in (the applicant’s) hands right now,” Micklon said.
Micklon gave an update on the Camp Manasseh project to selectmen at their regular meeting Wednesday. The camp would be a Christian summer camp on Ahonen Road.
The camp, if approved, would host individual church groups and run seven weeks each summer. It also could possibly host events at other times during the year.
The Planning Board has requested additional documents from the applicant, Dan Simoneau. The requested documents include deed restrictions relevant to any Department of Environmental Protection submittals.
“He has referenced those in a DEP storm-water management report,” Micklon said.
The board also wants Simoneau’s layout or design for a designated turnaround area, other than a parking area at the end of an access road. “It’s not on his site plan, and we want to ensure that we have proper turning areas for fire trucks,” Micklon said.
The board also has asked for a copy of a contract that Simoneau has referred to that he supplies and requires from all groups, renters and churches prior to their arrival, and a copy of any and all structure elevations, Micklon said.
Simoneau plans to construct three buildings on the property to provide housing for campers as well as dining and meeting space. One of the buildings will shelter water tanks and power and phone lines.
Campers would be allowed to swim and use canoes and kayaks, but no motorized boats would be used. No smoking or alcohol would be allowed at the camp.
Micklon said if the camp is approved, Simoneau has indicated he would begin construction as soon as possible. “He’s indicated to us that it’s full speed ahead,” he said.
