AUGUSTA – The EarthCare Team Network, Maine Council of Churches and Maine Interfaith Power and Light, will sponsor a gathering and talk on “Wisdom in Small Farms, Local Foods and Sustainable Communities” from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Pine Tree State Arboretum.

The program will begin with a tour of the arboretum by Executive Director Steve Oliveri. At 3:30, a sugar maple tree will be dedicated as a witness to the present generation’s commitment to mitigate global climate change and to protect and preserve the earth for generations to come.

At 4 p.m. John Carroll, professor of environmental conservation and author of numerous books on spirituality, sustainability and the environment, will talk about his latest book focused on small farms and sustainability.

At 5 p.m. the network will serve a simple local foods harvest supper and network.

For more information and to reserve a space, contact Andy Burt, Environmental Justice Program director for MCofC, at 623-0500 or adburt@gwi.net by Thursday, Nov. 3.

The group welcomes children. However, during the hour Carroll speaks, they would go to the lower floor room, where there will be supervision, a project and stories. The number of adults and children attending are needed.
