RANGELEY – Margaret F. Hayward, 87, of Rangeley, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 25, at her home with her son, Ray, and his wife, Adella, at her side.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1918, in upper Dallas Plantation, a daughter of Ruel and Vallie (Philbrick) Wilcox.

She was married to Raymond C. Hayward for 49 years, whom she married in November 1932, just before Thanksgiving. He died on May 21, 1982, in Machias.

She was a housewife for many years and worked at the Children’s Hospital in Boston as a housekeeper for several years. She enjoyed playing cards, marble games, dominoes, putting together picture puzzles, and houseplants, but her favorite pastime was reading.

She also enjoyed her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her seven sons, Orington Hayward and his wife, Dixie, of Crystal River, Fla., Lauren Hayward and his wife, Annalisa, of North Berwick, Roy Hayward and his wife, Adella, of Rangeley, Leaman Hayward and his wife, Joan, of Floral City, Fla., Wendall Hayward and his wife of Thailand, Leonard Hayward of Dexter, and Kenneth Hayward and his wife of Vermont; one daughter, Audrey of Massachusetts; one sister, Angie Ivers of Rangeley; 17 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will dearly miss her.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Bell Wilcox of Rangeley, Ethel Campbell of Strong and Esther Mitchell of Farmington; two brothers, Clifford R. and Everett Wilcox of Phillips; and two sons, Leroy Hayward and Alan Hayward, formerly of Deland, Fla.
