PORTLAND – The Maine Patent Program will present a seminar on how to patent an invention.

It will cover the types of inventions that are subject to patent protection, practical steps to obtain a patent and how to perform searches on an invention.

The seminar will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the University of Maine School of Law, 246 Deering Ave.

It will be on the first floor, Room 131, middle classroom.

Tom Maas, Ph.D., patent adviser to the Maine Patent Program, will be the speaker.

A registered patent agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Maas has a background in innovative research and development, business development and intellectual property management.

His experience includes laboratory careers with IBM, Exxon and Amoco developing technology that resulted in numerous patents.
